Securing a Position
It is the mission of teachNOLA to prioritize working in schools with the highest need for teachers. As a result, teachNOLA teachers should be prepared to teach wherever they are most needed. teachNOLA teachers will teach in either the Recovery School District (RSD) or a participating charter school.
Candidates that are selected for and enroll in our program will receive a variety of placement support through invitations to job fairs, regularly updated vacancy lists and interview coordination. teachNOLA will also provide school hiring personnel with information on our teachers, including resumes and application question responses. Hiring personnel review candidate materials and invite selected candidates for a school-based interview.
teachNOLA tracks school vacancies on an ongoing basis in an effort to provide the most current information to teachers. Individuals will be connected with principals based on school needs and subject area eligibility. While teachNOLA provides assistance, resources and support in finding a placement, it is ultimately the responsibility of the teacher to secure a position. Please keep in mind that many principals are reluctant to make final hiring decisions until they have met a candidate in person, so teachers should expect to interview in person at individual schools.
Although teachNOLA provides our teachers with substantial placement support, the placement process can prove challenging at times. Teacher vacancies and assignments frequently change due to the mobility of New Orleans schools, and the placement process is different for every teacher. Some teachers obtain interviews with school administrators immediately, while others may not secure a position until closer to, and possibly into, the start of the school year. Therefore, it is extremely important to remain flexible and patient during the placement process. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, all teachNOLA teachers secured placements before the start of the school year.
Please note: All final offers of employment are made to candidates as a result of these school-based interviews. teachNOLA is not the hiring agent at any point in this process; our initiative provides a free service to effectively connect highly-qualified teachers with schools that have a demonstrated need for those teachers.
