Securing a Position
Candidates accepted into teachNOLA will be assigned to teach in a specific subject area. Subject assignments are based on teaching eligibility (including passage of appropriate teaching tests), district need, and—to the extent possible—the candidate’s stated preferences from the Online Application. Eligibility is determined according to strict requirements from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), which requires candidates to demonstrate subject area competency through the passage of a specific Praxis content area examination. While we are currently recruiting for all subjects, we have a particular focus on the high-need areas of math, science, special education, foreign language, and high school English.
Candidates will receive a tentative subject assignment when invited to interview, allowing time to register for the appropriate Praxis tests. During the Training Institute, Fellows will also be required to take and pass the Recovery School District’s skills assessment to secure a position. For more information, visit our page on Testing Requirements.
Since teachNOLA aims to work with schools with the greatest demand for teachers, all candidates should be prepared to teach where they are most needed. School matches are primarily driven by school need and by each Fellow’s qualifications. Fellows are asked to be extremely flexible with regard to the placement process.
Please note: All final offers of employment are made to candidates as a
result of school-based interviews. teachNOLA is not the hiring agent at
any point in this process; our initiative provides a free service to effectively
connect interested teachers with schools that have a demonstrated need for
those teachers.
